IPERCUBO is delighted to present Roy Ascott’s Artsy Online Exclusive: Roy Ascott: The Analogues Online.
IPERCUBO is delighted to present Roy Ascott’s Online Exclusive: Roy Ascott: The Analogues Online featuring a selection of the artist’s most relevant analogue works, originally exhibited in 2013 at Plug In ICA, Winnipeg, curated by Anthony Kiendl.
This corpus of works can be considered as the link between Ascott’s interest and study of cybernetic theory and his pioneer work online, which he has been developing since the late Seventies:
“The Analogues were created during the period between [Ascott’s] initial contact with cybernetic theory and his first digitally-networked experiences online. Consequently, the Analogues form an indexical moment through which we may better understand Ascott’s impact on art, new media theory and education. As we can see in these works, Ascott anticipated the concept of “interactivity” in art, and his radical Groundcourse in art education positioned the importance of education in artistic practice, especially notable in relation to the educational turn in contemporary art” (PlugIn ICA, 2013).
To Roy Ascott: The Analogues Online a viewing room will follow with the aim of contextualising the analogues in the broader production of the artist.
